Grand jury indicts man in Atlanta rapper's killing
ATLANTA (AP) ? A grand jury in Georgia has indicted a man authorities say fatally shot an Atlanta rapper at a recording studio last year.
The Fulton County District Attorney's Office said in a statement that 29-year-old Vinson Hardimon, known as rapper Young Vito, was indicted Tuesday on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
A trial date has not been set.
Police say Hardimon shot and killed 24-year-old Mario Hamilton, known as rapper Slim Dunkin, on Dec. 16 at an Atlanta recording studio.
Authorities say Hardimon was waiting for his turn in the recording booth before punching Hamilton. The fight ended with Hamilton shot in the chest. He later died at a hospital.
Hardimon later turned himself in to authorities.

Backlash on 'Dancing'? Judges nitpick Melissa

Melissa Gilbert delivered a tough cha-cha, but the judges weren't impressed.

Aaaaaaand they're off! Monday night, the stars put on their dancing shoes (and some really questionable costumes) and strutted their ballroom stuff on the season 14 premiere of "Dancing With the Stars." The results? Mixed, to say the least.
Basically, the ballroom romps broke down into three categories: Good, fun and fair. Oh, wait! There was one more category: Unfair.
That's because just one night into the competition, things are already getting personal on the part of the panel of experts. What else could explain the bounty of nitpicks actress Melissa Gilbert received after tackling one of the most difficult dances of the night alongside ballroom's bad boy, Maksim Chmerkovskiy?
As any loyal "Dancing" fan knows, Maks has had his share of verbal run-ins with Len Goodman and the gang, and last season the tension between the pro and the panelists escalated right past the spinning mirror ball and through the roof. This season? It seems like his partner (and by extension, Maks) is paying for it.
The "Little House on the Prarie" star took the stage for the sort of cha-cha-cha one might expect halfway into the competition. The intense choreography, which required many more solo moves than any of the other cha-chas of the night necessitated, showed off some early strengths from the star -- such as a great sense of musicality from a non-musician/non-dancer and near-perfect timing. It also revealed some tiny, typical first-night weaknesses -- most notably imperfect arm lines and shoulders that could use more finesse in the future.
Anyone familiar with the early routines would expect such a dance to earn a decent score -- maybe a couple of 8s and a 7, which seemed the score of the night for equal dancers and for several lesser ones. But no, after a string of nitpicks about the shape of Melissa's free arm, the judges gave her 7s and a 6, unfairly landing her in the back of the pack and presumably punishing Maks for last season's sins (if you want to call them that).
Melissa was far from the only good dancer of the night, just the only one held back for it. Also from the plus side of the dance floor was actor Jaleel White, who left his "Family Matters" character, Steve Urkel, behind for a fantastic foxtrot. (Of course, there may have been a little Stefan Urquelle in those smooth moves.) For his effort, he earned two 9s, one 8 and whole lot of praise.
"I'm telling you, I thought I was watching the great Gregory Hines," said Bruno Tonioli.
Tying Jaleel on the scoreboard with a flowing foxtrot of her own was Welsh operatic-pop star Katherine Jenkins, otherwise known as "who?" to most viewers. Only time will tell if her moves are enough to overcome her lack of stateside fame.
Which might have been a concern for former model and actor William Levy, if he hadn't totally blown the ballroom away with his sexy (seriously sexy) cha-cha. Levy no doubt secured plenty of votes as he moved alongside partner Cheryl Burke and showed off moves that were part Chippendales and part ...?something else almost too naughty for ballroom. The end result? Carrie Ann Inaba has a new favorite and William has a matching set of 8s.
Disney Channel star Roshon Fegan impressed the crowd with his precision cha-cha moves, but there was a darned good reason for that. While his partner, Chelsie Hightower, may have shown him a few cha-cha pointers, the routine, influenced heavily by hip-hop moves, played right into his ringer status. After all, before getting his 23, Roshon admitted he was a lifelong freestyle hip-hop dancer.
Another one dancing for Team Good was actor Jack Wagner. Not surprisingly, given his musical background, Jack was strong on musicality. In a sweet foxtrot, he kept up with pro partner Anna Trebunskaya nicely, if not excitingly, and took 23 points for it.
Those looking for excitement found plenty of it from the fun crowd. There was Donald Driver, who saw 7s for his action-packed cha-cha with Peta Murgatroyd. Sherri Shepherd also made a fun impression with her 23-point foxtrot with the self-proclaimed "better looking" Chmerkovskiy, Val. And then singing legend Gladys Knight put the Pips to shame with her equally scored cha-cha with Tristan MacManus.
As for the just fair dancers, they were led by Derek Hough's rare non-ringer partner actress and "Extra" host, Maria Menounos, who earned 7s for her cha-cha. It was one less for Gavin DeGraw's foxtrot with pro Karina Smirnoff. And the likable Martina Navratilova, who surely won't be bringing home Tony Dovolani's much-desired mirror ball this season, tied Gavin (and Melissa?!) with her foxtrot.
So, who's premiere-night dance was worthy of the premiere ballroom boot of the season? Luckily for the stars, they won't have to worry about it yet. There's no elimination this week, so all of the hopefuls will return next Monday for another shot to show what they can do ? and more importantly, how much better than can do it than they did this week.

Oh yeah, it also has piano. This four and a third star release shows Meat Loaf holding up quite well vocally. Meat Loaf?s?Hell in a Handbasket also?features guest artists Trace Adkins, Lil Jon and Mark McGrath.

Poachers may wipe out rhinos in S. Africa, campaigner warns
Rhinos will be wiped out from South Africa's wildlife parks by 2015 if poaching continues at its current rate, a campaigner fighting to save the beasts has warned.
And corruption among officials is contributing to the ongoing slaughter, said veterinary nurse Karen Trendler.
In a career spanning almost two decades, 50-year-old Trendler has raised 200 baby rhino orphans at a wildlife sanctuary in Pretoria, earning the nickname "Mama Rhino."
She is planning to open a special treatment centre for them, warning that the situation has become critical.
Poachers nabbed 448 rhinos last year, and in the first three months of this year the toll stood at 109 -- in other words, a kill-rate of more than one a day.
While the poachers target the adult rhinos for their horns, baby rhinos often die too, unable to survive alone.
The sharp increase in poaching has raised concerns among experts that the animals could disappear from the wild within the next four years, Trendler said.
"You hate to sound alarmist, you hate to even consider that it could happen. But if the poaching continues at the current rate we could eventually see rhino go extinct.
"There are predictions that by 2015 we could have no rhino."
The problem has been exacerbated by the fact that some people working in wildlife conservation and animal welfare have been implicated in the lucrative poaching industry, Trendler said.
"There are some incredibly good guys in the business who are doing amazing things and who would give their lives for those rhino.
"But unfortunately we do have an element of corruption. There have already been prosecutions and arrests, where government officials are complicit."
The booming market for rhino horn and increasingly sophisticated poaching methods help explain the devastating death-rate, Trendler said.
"There is a growing economy in Asia, so there is more disposable income to pay for Chinese traditional medicine.
"There is easier accessibility, poachers have better technology, so using cell phones and GPS they can move the horn that much quicker through the process.
"On top of that there's the sinister part of it where it's actually being stockpiled against extinction.
"So they just take up as much as they can get and it's held in stockpile for the time when the numbers drop and the value of the horn goes up," Trendler said.
Some private owners are even pushing to have the trade in rhino horns legalised, arguing that prohibition has done nothing to stop poaching, something that Trendler vehemently opposes.
She is busy building a rhino orphanage at a golf and leisure resort near Mokopane in Limpopo, in the north of the country.
Presented as South Africa's first non-commercial and non-tourist rhino orphanage, it will have an intensive care unit with incubators, drips and surveillance cameras.
A small team of carers will look after the baby rhinos, and human contact will be kept to a minimum because the aim is to release them back into the wild.
Once they are strong enough to leave the unit, they will be introduced to their "surrogate parents," a pair of adult rhinos who live in the resort's game park, Trendler said.
"We've had phenomenal success in the past with rhino who are naturally very nurturing or who have a lovely nature who'll take on calves and become a friend or a companion," she said. "Given the characteristics of the two rhino that are here, we believe they are probably going to form bonds with the calves."

Why Does Most Career Advice Suck? ? Scott H Young
My good friend and roommate just started the challenging career path of becoming a successful architect. As we spoke about the difficulties of making a name for yourself in an established industry, I realized I was unequipped to offer advice. It had been almost five years since I had a real job.
Instead, I asked him what books he had read on building a remarkable career. To my surprise, he said he hadn?t read any.
This is a surprise, because I can?t think of any entrepreneurs that don?t have at least one or two favorite books on building a business. When I first got the idea of starting a business, I was voracious, reading everything I could on sales, entrepreneurship and marketing. If 80% of businesses failed, I wanted to know everything I could to be in the minority of success stories.
But becoming a successful architect is no less difficult than starting a business. Then why hadn?t my ambitious and capable friend read a single book on starting a career?
Most Career Advice Sucks
The problem is that most career advice sucks. While books on entrepreneurship are varied and numerous, most career advice falls into one of two categories: ?follow your passions? and ?use your network.?
Telling someone to simply follow their passions is a nice thought, but supremely unhelpful (similar to the entrepreneurial mantra to ?just start something?). What if you don?t know what your passions are? Or if your passions can?t earn you a living?
Similarly, telling someone to use their network is empty advice. What does that mean exactly? Should you be spamming your Facebook friends for job opportunities?
There are some good writers on career issues, but their ideas tend to be a minority in a sea of easy affirmations about following your passion.
Maybe Employees Should Think More Like Entrepreneurs?
Perhaps some of the blame in lousy career writing is due to the extreme shift in the accepted norms on employment. In my parents generation, you traded loyalty for lifelong employment. Today, I have friends in their mid-twenties who have already switched firms several times.
This liquidity in the employment contract also means employers are less willing to carefully guide your professional development. As my friend discovered when looking for his first job, HR managers wanted concrete skills, not just ?potential? and a university degree.
These are new challenges for this generation of employees, but they?re the same challenges entrepreneurs have always faced: how do you take intelligent risks? What constitutes a useful network? How do you market yourself and pick the right abilities to develop?

Scorned male fruit flies turn to booze, according to new study
Like plenty of dudes I know, male fruit flies who have been sexually rejected turn to booze, a new study shows.
According to researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, rejected male fruit flies consumed four times more alcohol than those who had recently mated.
"This was just a wild experiment to do," Galit Shohat-Ophir, the lead researcher, told Science, where the findings were published. "We didn't expect to see such dramatic results."

The scientists put 24 male fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) in one of two situations. Half the males were placed in vials in groups of four, each group with 20 female flies that were ready to mate, allowing the males to mate with multiple females. The other half of the males were put alone in vials, each with one female that had already mated, making her reject any courtship advances. After 4 days of repeated mating or rejection, the male flies were moved to new containers, with capillaries containing food mash?some with alcohol and others without?that they could eat.
Shohat-Ophir said that a chemical in the male fruit-fly brain called neuropeptide F likely caused them to drown their sorrows following rejection, but that more research is needed.
Nonetheless, the link between sexual rejection and alcohol is important, scientists say. "We are really hoping that this will encourage those working with mice and rats and humans to look at what happens to this neuropeptide in psychiatric conditions," Ulrike Heberlein, one of the researchers, told Bloomberg News.

Corn insecticide linked to great die-off of beneficial honeybees
ScienceDaily (Mar. 14, 2012) ? New research has linked springtime die-offs of honeybees critical for pollinating food crops -- part of the mysterious malady called colony collapse disorder -- with technology for planting corn coated with insecticides.
The study, published in ACS' journal Environmental Science & Technology, appears on the eve of spring planting seasons in some parts of Europe where farmers use the technology and widespread deaths of honeybees have occurred in the past.
In the study, Andrea Tapparo and colleagues explain that seeds coated with so-called neonicotinoid insecticides went into wide use in Europe in the late 1990s. The insecticides are among the most widely used in the world, popular because they kill insects by paralyzing nerves but have lower toxicity for other animals. Almost immediately, beekeepers observed large die-offs of bees that seemed to coincide with mid-March to May corn planting. Scientists thought this might be due to particles of insecticide made airborne by the pneumatic drilling machines used for planting. These machines forcefully suck seeds in and expel a burst of air containing high concentrations of particles of the insecticide coating. In an effort to make the pneumatic drilling method safer, the scientists tested different types of insecticide coatings and seeding methods.
They found, however, that all of the variations in seed coatings and planting methods killed honeybees that flew through the emission cloud of the seeding machine. One machine modified with a deflector to send the insecticide-laced air downwards still caused the death of more than 200 bees foraging in the field. The authors suggest that future work on this problem should focus on a way to prevent the seeds from fragmenting inside the pneumatic drilling machines.

The Small-Business Optimism Index gained 0.4 points in February to 94.3 marking the sixth consecutive month of gains. While still historically low, the latest increase is a sign that the recovery is likely to continue, albeit at a glacial pace. The Index is lower than that of February 2011 but is the second highest reading since December 2007, the beginning of the recession.Note: Small businesses have a larger percentage of real estate and retail related companies than the overall economy.

LONDON (Reuters) - Struggling British video games retailer Game
The paper said Rothschild had been appointed to find a buyer. It added failure to pay the landlords could push Game into administration, and said Deloitte had been lined up to handle any insolvency process.
Citing sources, the Sunday Times reported that selling in such a short timeframe "could be a problem". It, however, said the group's Spanish division is thought to have attracted the interest of U.S. rival GameStop Corp.
Game Group, which trades from some 1,270 stores in nine European markets and Australia, declined to comment.
The group, which is facing intense competition from internet players and supermarkets, had last month boosted its chances of survival when it agreed revised lending terms with its bankers.
