The ailing Danish wind giant Vestas is target for a take over by the much smaller Chinese Ming Yang. It is the Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet who breaks the story. According to sources close to the process, Ming Yang talked about a takeover at a meeting last week in Hamburg.

Buying Vestas? debt

Ming Yang has realised that the structure of ownership, with thousands of small shareholders, makes a normal takeover very difficult. The strategy supposedly is to buy Vestas? huge debt, and try to get control of the company by the back door.

With a market share of only 3.2 percent in 2010 compared to Vestas? 15.5 percent it is the mice planning to takeover the elephant, but with a credit of DDK 30 billion (US$ 5 billion) from China Development Bank, Ming Yang might be able to do it. Vestas? Market value is only DDK 8 billion equal to 0.4 price/book value. Vestas? long term liabilities are DDK 34 billion.

Vestas negotiating with Mitsubishi

While the Chinese plans to get control of Vestas, the company itself desperately seeks new capital. They are negotiating a strategic pact with Japanese Mitsubishi, which may end up with an off shore joint venture. The two companies might be able to benefit mutual from cooperating.
Mitsubishi earlier this year lost a patent battle to General Electric, making life difficult for the Japanese on the important American market. At the moment Mitsubishi is not able to deliver to their American customers, but Vestas has lot of capacity in US and no patent issues.

Vestas has most to gain

Jacob Pedersen, an analyst at Sydbank, said that Denmark?s Vestas potentially has the most to gain from any joint venture.

?If Vestas could move a lot of debt from their balance sheet to a joint venture that would make a lot of sense,? he said.

?One of the issues surrounding the company is the indebtedness and if [debt] covenants are being breached, so it would be an advantage moving some of the debt to another company.?

As both companies look to expand business at sea, tying the knot in an offshore joint venture would be the most likely outcome of an agreement, he said.

?They are both developing offshore turbines. Vestas has ground breaking technology as I understand it, which is very expensive, and Mitsubishi?s technology is not nearly as good. Mitsubishi has the money and capital and [would] get the technology in return,? Pedersen said.
However, Pedersen said that any partnership would likely be destined to operate in the offshore-wind market only, and only as a joint venture, which would be set up as separate company.

1.? Austal To Expand, Hire 1,000 More Employees in Mobile

MOBILE -- Gov. Robert Bentley recently announced a $5 million project agreement between the state and Austal USA that will help the shipbuilder add up to 1,000 full-time jobs in Mobile. The Phase V Agreement, a five-year project that will help Austal continue its workforce expansion, will provide employee training services Alabama Industrial Development Training.

Austal currently employs about 3,000 people to build Joint High Speed Vessels and littoral combat ships for the U.S. Navy. Under a current project agreement, that number is expected to grow by an additional 600. Once the Phase V Agreement is complete, Austal expects to have 4,600 employees in Mobile.

2.? Cooperation Lauded in Effort To Attract Walgreens To Shoals

?

Corporate officials from Walgreens applauded the cooperation of local and state leaders during a news conference at Muscle Shoals City Hall. In addition to 350 more jobs coming to the Shoal during the next three years, plans also call for a $3.5 million capital investment in the expansion that involves an additional 16,000 square foot expansion.

Troy Mills, divisional vice president for customer care for Walgreens, said his company was impressed with the bipartisan effort from local legislators to pass legislation in March that created a permitting process to allow the call center to continue its current operation and expand. "It really was democracy in action, to push through something that can generally take five to six months and do it in basically a month," he said.

3.? Mercedes To Create 45 New Jobs in Tuscaloosa County

VANCE -- Mercedes-Benz is trying to gain a foothold for its Alabama-made luxury SUVs in fast-growing Asian markets through a new partnership with a logistics firm that has created at least 45 jobs in Tuscaloosa County and the potential for more.

The German automaker and BLG Logistics outlined details of their plan to produce and ship SKD, or Semi Knocked Down, kits for the M-Class and GL-Class SUVs to India, Indonesia and Thailand.

4.? Honda To Add 50 Employees, Invest $115 Million in Alabama Plant

Honda plans to invest an additional $115 million and fill 50 new positions in its Alabama operations. The company is also making a major change in the plant's shifts to meet growing demand.

In January, the factory will move to a two-shift work schedule of four, 10-hour days per week (Monday through Thursday) for most vehicle assembly operations. Honda employs more than 4,000 people at its $2 billion plant in Lincoln, where it produces the Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup.

Honda has announced nearly 300 new jobs and $390 million in new investment in Lincoln since last fall to increase production capacity and prepare for the addition of the Acura MDX SUV to its assembly lines next year, among other projects.

5.? Alabama Exports Rise Faster than National Average

Alabama exports are increasing at a faster pace than the national average. Merchandise exports from Alabama grew at more than twice the national average through the first six months of 2012, according to a new report from the International Trade Administration.

?

Alabama merchandise exports increased to $10.1 billion in the first half of 2012. That's up 16 percent from $8.7 billion from the same period in 2011. The national growth rate for merchandise exports was 7 percent.

?

Exports were also up for several of the state's top merchandise export destinations, including the United Kingdom (up 68 percent), Germany (up 55 percent) and Mexico (up 40 percent).

?

The state's key sectors for merchandise exports are transportation equipment, chemicals, minerals and ores, primary metals and machinery.

6.? Amtex Expansion To Create 110 Jobs

?

A global automotive supplier in Jasper has announced an expansion that will bring more than 100 new jobs to the area.

Amtex, a tier one supplier for automotive parts to Japanese and domestic manufacturers, will establish a new facility in Jasper. The manufacturing plant will be located in the Tom Bevill Industrial Park, near the company?s current location. The company manufactures carpet and interior trim components for the automotive industry. Construction has already begun on the plant.

7.? DRS Technologies To Open in Andalusia

?

DRS Technologies will open a new operation at South Alabama Regional Airport in Andalusia.

?

The company?s focus is defense technology, and it develops, manufactures and supports a broad range of systems for the military and Homeland Security. At SARA, it will do aircraft maintenance and upgrades.

Ed Boyington, DRS vice president and general manager for aviation and logistics, said one of the keys for the company?s decision to open there was location. ?There are plenty of empty hangars,? he said. ?They?re just not in as good a physical location as this one.? Boyington said the proximity to Eglin, Hurlburt Field, Pensacola Naval Station, special ops, and Ft. Rucker made the local airport an attractive location. ?Just as important,? he said, ?is the environment you and your team across the board have set for business.

8.? Money Magazine Names Auburn One of Top Places To Live in U.S.

Money Magazine named Auburn among the top 100 places to live in its list of the best small cities in the U.S.

BIRMINGHAM -- Firestone Building Products will more than double the size of its manufacturing plant in Tuscumbia. Construction will begin in September on the 150,000-square-foot addition to the plant, which produces roofing membranes that provide resistance to ultraviolet, ozone and chemical exposure. The work is expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2013.

By July 2015, an additional manufacturing line will start up, creating about 40 jobs.

"Expansion to the Firestone Shoals plant will allow us to gain some much-needed warehouse space for the short term and increase our manufacturing capabilities to meet customer demand in the future," Tim Dunn, president of Firestone Building Products, said.

10. Two Companies Expand Facilities in St. Clair County

Two companies in northern St. Clair County announced expansions and new jobs this month. Rain Bird and Yachiyo Manufacturing of Alabama facility, located in Steele, announced expansions and will create over 70 new jobs.

Rain Bird Corporation is currently the leading manufacturer and provider of irrigation products and services. It located a manufacturing, assembly and distribution facility in Steele in 2008 in the building previously occupied by Saks. ?After opening with 25 employees, the facility has announced two expansions, which will raise their employee number to more than 70 employees. ?The expansion includes a capital investment in the facility?s equipment of $2.4 million.

Yachiyo Manufacturing of Alabama is an automotive supplier specializing in automotive frame parts for the Honda facility in Lincoln. The company, headquartered near Tokyo, originated in 1951 as a component painter for Honda motorcycle parts.

Facebook focuses on business, not struggling stock

Even as their company has lost nearly half its market value, Facebook executives have had little to say in public about the stock. Instead, they've talked up new ad programs and launched new features, including a beefed-up version of Facebook's iPhone service, aimed at boosting their fledgling mobile business.

But Facebook's stock market struggles pose looming challenges, analysts warn. Talented employees might start to look elsewhere, after watching their own shares lose millions of dollars in value. And some critics have questioned CEO Mark Zuckerberg's leadership.

"Stay focused and keep shipping," is the mantra that Zuckerberg, the company's founder and hoodie-wearing chief executive, has repeated to employees since his former dorm-room startup began selling stock to the public in the spring.

At $38 a share, the highly anticipated initial public offering valued the company in May at a stunning $104 billion, but the stock began a steep slide soon after. It closed Wednesday at $19.10 a share.

Although he has offered some reassurances to Facebook workers, Zuckerberg has kept a relatively low profile since the IPO. That has frustrated some investors and prompted critics to ask if the 28-year-old Harvard University dropout is qualified to lead a public company.

"There's a growing sense that Mark Zuckerberg,

talented though he may be, may be feeling in-over-his-hoodie as CEO of a multibillion-dollar company," said Sam Hamadeh of the New York investment research firm PrivCo.

Zuckerberg's job seems secure because he controls a majority of Facebook's voting shares. A Facebook spokesman declined to comment for this article. But company sources say top executives take investors' concerns seriously, while concentrating on building their business.

When pressed on a conference call after the company's last earnings report, Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman told analysts: "Obviously we're disappointed about how the stock has traded. But I think the important thing for us is to stay focused on the fact that we're the same company now as we were before."

Some experts say it's not surprising Zuckerberg would keep his head down while the company struggles to deliver on the exalted potential that early boosters saw in Facebook. Analysts say one of its biggest challenges is the mobile platform, which is drawing users faster than its desktop interface, while producing far less advertising revenue.

With nearly 1 billion active users around the globe, Facebook reported $1.2 billion in revenue last quarter and more than $10 billion in cash on hand. Its revenue growth is slowing, however, while the company has hiked spending at a faster rate.

The company is investing in new mobile initiatives for future growth, rather than focusing on short-term profit, Ebersman said last month. But that's not enough to assuage investors who'd like to see better earnings in the next quarter.

"If the guidance you can give investors would actually shore up their confidence, that's probably something you want to do. But sometimes it may be better to say as little as possible," said Simon Rodan, a management professor at San Jose State.

That may explain why Facebook made no public statements about the recent expiration of a 90-day "lockup" restriction that barred some early investors from selling their stock, Rodan suggested. Analysts say Silicon Valley financier Peter Thiel's subsequent move to sell more than 20 million shares only made the stock look worse, as shares fell below $19 for the first time.

The company faces a bigger milestone in the fall, when another lockup is scheduled to expire and 1.2 billion shares of stock, held by Facebook employees and other early investors, become eligible for sale. If those stockholders decide to sell, analysts warn they could flood the market and drive the price down more.

The November lockup expiration could also lead to an exodus of valuable talent. Experts say it's not uncommon for some workers at newly public companies to cash in their stock and move on to the next startup. Based on the company's filings, PrivCo's Hamadeh estimates Facebook employees hold about 450 million shares that will be eligible for sale in November.

Those employees have seen more than $8 billion in wealth wiped out since the IPO, as their shares have lost almost half their value. While individual holdings vary widely, that represents an average loss of $2 million on paper for each of Facebook's 4,000 employees.

"That's always a concern," said Brandon Cherry of the Hay Group, a human resources consulting firm that advises companies in Silicon Valley's competitive labor market. In addition to rival startups looking for talented engineers, he said, bigger companies like Google (GOOG) "may have an opportunity to pull some people out of Facebook."

Even so, most Facebook employees are not facing an issue that has surfaced at other tech companies, which grant options to buy stock at a certain price. With options, the employee only makes money if the stock goes higher. Most of Facebook's employee shares were granted outright, so they still have value at the market price, even if that has declined sharply.

"They're going to have some people leave. But I'd be really surprised to see mass defections of employees," said Stanford University business professor Paul Oyer, an expert on labor economics. "The company is still doing well."

In recent weeks, Zuckerberg has told workers that outsiders may not know or understand Facebook's plans. The sliding stock price is painful for some employees, Zuckerberg acknowledged at a companywide meeting, according to The Wall Street Journal, but he urged workers not to obsess over it.

Investors, however, are still worried about Facebook's challenges, said Rick Summer, a financial analyst at Morningstar. The company may be building its business, he added, "but I don't think that message has been communicated well to the investing public."

0104 GMT: Tom Stemberg, the founder of office supply superstore Staples, took the floor. He sang the praises of Romney's leadership at Bain and said the Obama team has failed at reviving the stagnant US economy because they do not understand the needs of business people.

He led the crowd in a refrain that the Democrats "Just don't get it!"

"Let me tell you, my friend, Mitt Romney, gets it. And I could not be more confident in saying that the American people get it."

0054 GMT: The theme has moved from Mormonism and faith to Romney's background as a business leader. After an introduction from Bob White, chairman of the Romney campaign, delegates watch a short video of workers singing the praises of Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney ran for years.

"It seems to me, when it comes to loving our neighbor, we can talk about it, or we can live it. The Romney's live it, every single day," said Pam Finlayson.

"When the world looks at Mitt Romney, they see him as the founder of a successful business, the leader of the Olympics, or a governor. When I see Mitt, I know him to be a loving father, man of faith and caring and compassionate friend.

"Howdy folks," Ted said before telling an emotional crowd about how Romney, who they called Mitt, helped their family as their 14-year-old son suffered from cancer.

Pat said Romney helped the boy write a will so his skateboard and rifle would go to the right people when he died.

"The next time Mitt went to the hospital, he was equipped with his yellow legal pad and pen. Together, they made David's will. That is a task that no child should ever have to do. But it gave David peace of mind."

Bennett's role was to personalize Romney and articulate the role of their controversial faith in Romney's life. He introduced two families who were helped by Romney while he served as unpaid clergy.

0825 GMT: Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a lawmaker from the Western state has taken the stage. As Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference, Rodgers is the only woman and the youngest member of the Republican leadership.

He opened with a lengthy passage in Spanish, which he learned during two years spent as a Mormon missionary in Chile from 2000 to 2002. His remarks were welcomed warmly by the crowd, and his appearance turned the convention cameras to Ann Romney for the first time as she cheered him.

2350 GMT: Former speaker of the house and presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has come to the podium with his third wife, Callista. She is wearing her trademark platinum blonde bob, with a defined swoop on the left.

The two run a conservative media company together, producing videos and books that highlight the work of conservative figures like Reagan and their conservative values. They slammed Obama and his agenda.

"Obama's proud of what he?s done and of his politically motivated partisanship, but he should be ashamed for putting politics before people," Newt Gingrich said.

Callista Gingrich said Romney will "return America to work, and to the principles that are at the core of President Reagan's legacy."

2347 GMT: Taking the lead from Mack, a video extolling Reagan is playing on the convention screens, highlighting many of his best speeches.

2342 GMT: After an invocation, Representative Connie Mack took the stage. He is a candidate for the senate from Florida. He called for a strong defense and for the restoration of the American Dream.

"We have the awesome responsibility to make that dream a reality.That dream is not an impossible dream. It?s the American dream. It's sure, it's strong and it's?s steady."

He invoked conservative hero Ronald Reagan and his promise of American renewal by opening with the line, "Once again, it's morning in America."

2332 GMT: Hawaiian Marine combat veteran Dylan Nonaka, led the delegates in the Pledge of Alligance to the US flag, which opens the school day at most US schools and many official events. He worn a traditional Hawaiian garland of greens around his neck and ended with, "Mahalo and Semper Fi!" Mahalo means "thank you" in Hawaiian and Semper Fi is the Marines motto "Semper Fidelis" or Always Faithful.

2331 GMT: Speaker of the House John Boehner just called the convention to order. The congressman is finishing his 11th term in the House of Representatives.

2330 GMT: An estimated $123 million dollars was spent putting on this partisan show, most of it raised from corporate donors including Hewlett-Packard and Coca-Cola. For the 50,000 people who have gathered for the event, the host committee secured 16,000 rooms in 105 hotels.

2324 GMT: Attendees have been asked to take their seats. Looks like they are going to get this ball rolling.

2315 GMT: Official business is running a bit behind, but the live band has begun to play with a cover of The Temptations' "My Girl." Delegates and guests are taking the chance to dance in their seats.

2307 GMT: The first order of business will be a call to order Representative John Boehner of Ohio. His home state is very much in play in this presidential race, going for Obama with 51.2 percent.

For such a high profile event, there is a surprisingly small number of actual delegates gathered to nominate Romney. Of the 50,000 people expected in Tampa, Florida this week, only 2,286 are delegates. A mere 2,125 are alternates. With a press corps estimated at 15,000, journalists outnumber delegates by more than three to one. The Tampa Bay Times Forum can seat 20,000 people.

After a long primary fight, former Massachusetts governor and businessman Mitt Romney will accept his party's nomination for the White House in front of a cheering crowd of thousands. The conventions, multi-day lovefests designed to unite supporters as much as grab the attention of undecided voters, reach their peak with a speech from the nominee who uses the national spotlight to make his case as to why he should be president.

The stakes for Romney couldn't be higher. After trailing for months, he has recently drawn even in national polls against President Barack Obama, an incumbent saddled with a sluggish US economy and stubbornly high unemployment. A killer acceptance speech that humanizes Romney could go far towards tightening the race even further.

Can I be even tougher on Ann Romney's speech than John was? I know we've agreed, as a class, to grade candidates' spouses on a generous curve. They're all the closest adviser, the secret weapon, et cetera, and?as best I can recall?their convention speeches always get good reviews.

But Ann's seemed to miss the mark not only because, as John neatly outlined, it was entirely free of revealing anecdote. I felt as though it confused hardship with the humdrum in a way that seemed even more detached from the way most Americans live than any car elevator or Swiss bank account. "I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a 'storybook marriage,' " she said, in the moment where we're supposed to begin to learn that the Romneys are not as tragically perfect as they think we believe they are. "Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once."

Really? What dystopia is this she describes? Isn't five adorable kids playing in a house of one's own pretty much the idealized tableau of suburban domestic bliss? Isn't this the American Dream as the National Association of Realtors has sold it to us for years?

"A storybook marriage?" she tells us. "No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage."

Then Ann explained to us that the Romneys had it rough. "We walked to class together, shared the housekeeping, and ate a lot of pasta and tuna fish," she went on. "Our desk was a door propped up on sawhorses."

These were the speech's rare bits of color, the details that were supposed to give us a sense of how the Romneys had lived their very real marriage. Ann was deploying status signifiers, but what exactly did they signify? Is having to eat tuna supposed to signal that Mitt "was not handed success"? Is pasta an unheralded grain of affliction?

While I'm generating an inventory of Ann's oddball use of detail, what about this roll call of society's indispensable roles performed by women? "We're the mothers, we're the wives, we're the grandmothers, we're the big sisters, we're the little sisters, we're the daughters," she said. "You know it's true, don't you?"

Yes, we know it's true that women are mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters; every family tree attests to it. Like declaring their marriage a ?real marriage," Ann had aimed to share something about how she sees the world. But when she tried to take her experience and universalize it, she could come up with nothing better than truisms about human nature.

These weren't insights; they were facts.

The Undercurrent That Sparked the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot

Not an Isolated Event

One can never look at the infamous 1921 Tulsa Race Riot as an isolated event. It was not that at all. Such cataclysmic incidents seldom are. The signs of the times were like neon lights flashing across the sky.

We can begin with World War I, when the black citizens of America answered the call to serve their country.

During World War I 380,000 African Americans served in the wartime Army. Approximately 200,000 of these were sent to Europe. More than half of those sent abroad were assigned to labor and stevedore battalions, but they performed essential duties nonetheless, building roads, bridges, and trenches in support of the front-line battles. Roughly 42,000 saw combat.*

It?s only natural that these men returned home with the belief that they would be honored in the same manner as their white counterparts. It was not to be.

Unprecedented Number of Lynchings

In 1919, there were an unprecedented sixty-one lynchings of African-Americans in the U.S. In 1920, another sixty-one; and in 1921 fifty-seven. It?s difficult in these times to imagine the extreme degree of lawlessness that existed to allow such slaughter to occur.

Not relegated only to America, World-wide efforts sprang up to halt such racial hostilities. One such effort was the Pan-African Congress in Paris organized by Harvard-educated Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois. (Du Bois had distinguished himself as being the first African-American to earn a doctorate in the U.S.)

The more the black communities stepped out to assert themselves, the more fear, suspicion, bitterness, and jealousy grew among the white communities.

The Emergence of Greenwood

It was because of the discovery of oil in and around Tulsa, creating new millionaires, that the black community of Greenwood (located just north of Tulsa proper) blossomed. The two sections were totally and absolutely segregated ? separated by the railroad tracks.

Rich oil barons needed domestic help ? gardeners, cooks, nannies, chauffeurs, and the like ? to take care of their needs. Thus the black community had jobs in Tulsa which then created the opportunity for businesses to arise and flourish in Greenwood.

A number of entrepreneurs emerged in Greenwood, such as a lawyer named J.B. Stradford. Stradford owned a large hotel, a savings and loan company and many pieces of real estate. Businesses and services created a busy shopping district that included a movie theater, newspapers, churches, schools and a hospital. It is said that it was Booker T. Washington who named the area, ?Black Wall Street.?

It was a strange and unsettled time that looked so perfect on the surface. But appearances can be deceptive.

Power off your iPhone 4S

Before performing any repair you should always power off your device before opening it up.

Remove the back plate

1. Using your security screwdriver, remove the 2 screws on either side of the dock connector port.

2. Set them aside. They are both the exact same size and length so it does not matter if you mix them up. They are interchangeable.
3. Gently slide up the back plate by applying a bit of pressure along the bottom with your thumbs and sliding upwards.

4. Now lift off the back plate and set it aside.

Remove the battery and grounding clip

1. Using your #00 Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws holding the battery in place.

2. These screws are different lengths so make sure you remember which one goes where. The one that is slightly larger is the bottom screw.
3. There is a tiny grounding clip underneath the battery clip where the first screw is located. Use your spudger tool or finger to remove it before prying the clip up. Many times it can go flying if you don't remove it first and then you'll have difficulty locating it so it's best to remove it first.

4. Now use your spudger tool and at the bottom of the battery clip, gently pry upwards so the clip pops up.

5. Move to the edge of the iPhone where the volume buttons are located and use your spudger tool to carefully pry up the battery. It is stuck down with a good amount of adhesive so be careful when prying upwards that you don't bend the battery. This is why I do not use the plastic tab that is provided. It typically rips or bends the battery. If one part is resistant move your pry tool a little further down and gently start prying it up in different places taking care not to come too close to the volume button cables towards the top.

6. Once you've gotten the battery pulled out of the iPhone 4S we can move on to inserting the replacement battery.

Replace the battery and grounding clip

1. Pay attention to how the cable is bent on your old battery and if the new one is not crimped in the same fashion put the folds in it before inserting it into the iPhone 4S.

2. Line up the grounding clip you removed previously over the screw hole before snapping down the battery.

3. Snap down the battery in place to the logic board and then position the battery and press down firmly to make sure the adhesive sticks.
4. Replace the two screws you removed in a prior step starting with the top one using your #00 Phillips screwdriver. Make sure the grounding clip stays positioned. Use your other hand to hold it straight while you replace the top screw if you need to.

5. Now replace the bottom screw.

Replace the back plate

1. To replace the back plate line up the hinges around the edges. It should fall right into place. There will be a gap at the bottom.

2. Using slight pressure slide the cover down into place with your thumbs. If there is resistance make sure the hinges are lined up correctly and don't force it down and you can easily snap the hinge if it's caught up on something.
3. Once the back cover is securely in place and flush with the antenna band, replace the two screws on either side of the dock connector using your security screwdriver.

And ...done!

Now that your iPhone 4S is completely put back together you can turn it back on. If the phone doesn't come on, try plugging it into a wall charger and see if the charging icon comes up. It's quite possible the battery may be dead and needs to be charged before use.

It's a good idea to run the battery completely down before plugging it into a charger if it wasn't run down already. After it dies, charge it completely before pulling it off the charger again. You can do this a few times to condition the battery. While many say this may not be needed with batteries anymore, I have found it to make the battery meter read more accurately over time. You can actually do this at any time if you feel your battery is not displaying a charge accurately.

Bellingham Traverse Shifts Fundraising Model after 10 Years of Operations.

For the past 10 years Bellingham Traverse, a multi-sport race that celebrates the life cycle of salmon, has helped raise over $100,000 for the local and regional non-profit community. The Traverse has offered incentives, called Bait, for individuals to raise money.

In 2012, Bellingham Traverse evaluated its fundraising model and business practices to increase satisfaction with the community. ?We have been paying attention to how our participants have been behaving over the past with regards to fundraising and how they also respond to the prizes that have been given out. While a noble effort to encourage the fundraising for others, it was not a message that resounded loud enough,? says Todd Elsworth, Director.

The results of the evaluation have created a shift in the fundraising model for the Bellingham Traverse. Whereas in the past, the Traverse was open to a large group of fundraising beneficiaries, in 2012, only ONE organization will be selected.

As the ONE beneficiary, the chosen organization will receive a percentage of the surplus revenue for the event. They will also receive a complimentary registration to the event so they can raise money on their own behalf as a fundraising opportunity for their organization.

We have chosen the ONE non-profit that will be the beneficiary of the 2012 Bellingham Traverse. The selection criterion was three fold: Mission, Community Involvement, and Fundraising. Our panel reviewed the list and rated their effects in the three categories. The final list came down to Conservation Northwest, Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association, Kulshan Community Land Trust, RE Sources (Power Past Coal), Sustainable Connections, Whatcom Independent Mountain Peddlers (WHIMPS), Whatcom Land Trust, Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation.

We are fortunate to have such a strong representation of interests in our efforts of sustainability both locally and regionally. To cut to the chase: Kulshan Community Land Trust (KCLT) is the chosen ONE for 2012. We are excited to make this announcement to the community and encourage people to choose KCLT as one of their personal or professional beneficiaries as well.

Blue skies with patches of clouds hung over Tampa early Sunday, though winds were picking up as the major storm approached.

As aides in Tampa scramble, Mr. Romney is taking a rare day off the campaign trail at his lakeside vacation home in New Hampshire, receiving updates on the storm and making final preparations for the Thursday speech with which he will accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance," Romney tweeted after Republican officials announced they had called off Monday's convention proceedings.

Because of possible storm surges and flooding Isaac could bring, convention organizers said they were making contingency plans to move delegates who have been booked into beachfront hotels to other locations if necessary. They indicated the schedule shift also was meant to prevent overburdening emergency response personnel at the height of the storm.
